A New Wine From A Pioneer of Petite Syrah

1970 - 1997: CREATING STAGS' LEAP WINERY

We discovered Stags’ Leap’s old-growth Petite Syrah vines while replanting the historic vineyards and restoring the 19th century winery and manor house.

2000-2014: QUIXOTE WINERY

In 2000 we moved to the north side of the historic Stags’ Leap Ranch, and built a new winery. Despite cultivating many grape varietals, it was the Petite Syrah that held our attention and seduced us even further; our wines continued to grow in stature and acclaim.

2009-PRESENT: ¿COMO NO? WHY NOT?

We planted a two-acre virgin vineyard at the foot of the Stags’ Leap palisades, creating ¿Como No?, and continuing our love affair with this eccentric, bewitching grape, Petite Syrah.

We can’t quite determine the exact source of the extraordinary quality produced by this small planting--perhaps it’s because it had never been farmed before--but we all agree that after 45 years farming Stags’ Leap Ranch, it’s one of the truly remarkable plots in this district of superlative terroir.

“We've dedicated more than 40 years to improving the viticulture and winemaking practices of Petite Syrah.”
